Still no word on new Internet Explorer

With the wheels starting to turn on a release of Firefox version 3, people are beginning to wonder what's happening over at Microsoft. In 2006, they said you should expect a new version of Internet Explorer every 12 to 18 months. Yet, with 2007 drawing to a close, there's no specific news about what features Internet Explorer v8 might include, or when we might see it.
A Microsoft representative told the local paper that the company is 'committed to Internet Explorer and is actively working on the next version of the browser... However we are not commenting on future plans at this time.' Which, of course, could mean almost anything, and tells you almost nothing. 'What's been going on for the last year is anybody's guess,' says one former member of Microsoft's IE development team who now works on Firefox. But it seems a fairly safe assumption that we won't see a new version for another year or so.
Of course, that's no bad thing. Nobody wants to have to recode their website every 18 months, just because the new version handles some particular aspect of HTML or CSS differently. And besides, as we mentioned the other week, a large proportion of the audience hasn't yet moved from IE6 to IE7 yet. The last thing we all need is three Microsoft browsers in general circulation.

it isn't the responsibility of an ISP to support IE or any browser.
they should be able to troubleshoot it like BT can but the responsibility for IE lies in the hands of microsoft if there is an abnormal problem

Maybe they're trying to match the many versions of Vista with versions of IE!

Maybe they are still trying to figure out how to make the new version compatible with installation of their current Windows packages so you dont have to un-install it before you install their many Service Packs - Long live Firefox I say!!

I am still using IE6 as I don't find IE7 at all user friendly,I hope IE8 when it does arrive is an improvement!

IE is "troubleshot" (or should be) by ISPs incuding BT. however if the issue lies with IE it is not "supported" by your ISP as it is a product by microsoft who is responsible if it fails beyond standard repair

IE8 will be beta tested next year ( as per recent web transcripts of the IE team) and would incorporate a new layout engine. Meanwhile Firefox 3 (code named Gran Paridiso) is readying itself for release.
