Guarantee peace-of-mind about the online security of your personal details with our upcoming hosting portfolio, launching this month.
In my last entry on BT Web hosting, we looked at ranking high on search engines using the EasySiteOptimizer (ESO). This time I'd like to talk about the BT Domain Shield - designed to protect your identity online.
Did you know that if you own a domain name (yourbusiness.com), your email, contact numbers and even postal address are generally available on a global database known as WhoIs? The WhoIs database serves many useful functions and helps the global domain registration system work smoothly, but it's also a rich source of information for unscrupulous marketers, who harvest user information for spam, phishing attacks and fraudulent attempts at stealing domain names.
If you have a domain, look it up at www.whois.ws to see what sort of personal information is on public display.
The BT Domain Shield solves this security risk by taking your WhoIs personal details and replacing them with dummy information controlled by BT. Unlike some WhoIs blocking services, we put real, constantly refreshed contact information into the WhoIs database. This means we can filter your communications to deliver anything legitimate, such as a genuine offer for your domain name, a business lead, etc. Our service gives you security protection while ensuring you're not missing any genuine opportunities.
BT Domain Shield will be available as an option of the new BT Domain Centre, launching soon as part of the BT Web hosting service.
Initially Domain Shield will only be available as an additional feature for newly registered .com/ .net/ .org/ .info and .biz domains.
