The Apprentice: don't cry for me, Alan Sugar

Well, they certainly picked the right week to kick off proceedings alongside the Cutty Sark, didn't they? This week's episode of The Apprentice saw the teams moving into the importing business. And if (like me!) you recorded it whilst you watched the Liverpool game live... look away now.

I'm guessing the show's producers found it hard to fill the hour this week. After a couple of fabulous installments, this one fell a bit flat; so we ended up with extended boardroom scenes for what was ultimately a very simple decision. The moment Jadine shed her first homesick tear, her fate was effectively sealed. So for all Sir Alan's bluster about Lohit's supposed lack of a killer instinct, and Tre's so-called disastrous showing, it was no surprise whatsoever when the finger finally pointed at Jadine.

Katie's been the star of the show lately, but she barely featured this week - despite her role as project manager, finally breaking the 'make me the leader' jinx. Instead the focus was on Simon and Tre, who are becoming quite the double-act. Neither covered himself in glory, and Simon would have been in serious danger of expulsion, if Tre hadn't allowed personal feelings to interfere. (Hang on, didn't someone get fired for doing that before?) But not even a comprehensive defeat could stop Tre referring to his greatness in the present tense.

Suddenly, you realise that the field is thinning out - and it's possible to make a reasonable case for each of the six remaining candidates to be the eventual winner, with one exception. I'm going to put my money where my mouth is: next week, Naomi will go.

I still think Kristina's the hot favourite: yes, she has highs and lows, but she never drops below satisfactory. Tre would do well to learn from this week's experience, but he shows no sign of doing so. Simon lost his focus this week, not for the first time, and this may count against him in the final reckoning. But I'm beginning to think Lohit might yet be a shock winner; perhaps the reason he hasn't been prominent so far is that he hasn't messed up so far.

I don't think that Naomi should go - she did a superb job in selling the insoles, and brought a sense of dignity to a team where the other members are more concerned with making snide commments and back-stabbing. My wish is for Katie to go next week, but having seen a preview of Kristina swearing on live TV, I guess that her card is marked.

Alan Sugar must be really struggling with this group, I don't think there is one candidate that I would want to leave any part of my business for any of these back biting bunch of dimwits to run for me.

Kristina messed up big time, theres no way she will win. She made lots of comments along the lines "I will say anything to get a sale." He's looking for integrity and honesty - and I think deep down she hasn't got this. It will get spotted eventually.

Integrity and honesty? Are you sure, Kim? Did I miss the part where Sir Alan said: 'I'd much rather you didn't make a sale, if it was going to make you feel bad.'? :)

Simon or Lohit seem to me to be obvious candidates for the final at the moment but the killer episode when the interviews take place will reveal the strengths and weaknesses of their CVs! Katie was good this week and seems to perform better when she is leading the team although I wouldn't want her in my business!
