It's Dragon's Den v Apprentice on the Marathon

Posted 19 April 2007 at 2:01PM by Simon Dickson in Light relief

It's the London Marathon this Sunday, with just shy of 50,000 people signed up to run the 26 miles and 385 yards from Blackheath to The Mall, the long way round. Among them, as ever, will be a few famous faces - and I don't just mean Emmerdale actors.

In fact, it's a battle of the TV business shows, with Dragon's Den host Evan Davis going up against Michelle Dewberry, winner of the last series of The Apprentice. Evan is predicting a respectable time of 4 hours 30, whilst Michelle is expecting a rather more sociable 5 hours 15.

Other celebs hauling themselves round the capital include Ronan Keating, Gordon Ramsay, Ben (the one with the eyebrows) from X-Factor opera group G4, plus various MPs and former Big Brother contestants. Nell McAndrew, described in the promotional material as a 'glamour model', is quite the athlete, and although she's reportedly 'planning to take it steady this year', she's likely to get round in 3 hours or thereabouts.

But they'll all have their work cut out to beat the time set by Times columnist Matthew Parris, who ran five London Marathons between 1981 and 1985. His jaw-dropping Personal Best came in the last of those, at a fraction under 2 hours 33. To put that in context: it's over 26 minutes faster than Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong managed in New York last November.

Two great programs, but what became of Michelle? Am I right in thinking that she left Sir Alan's employ because of Pregnancy? Would be interested in Knowing more if anyone has further details.
