Got the rage?

Posted 25 March 2008 at 2:05PM by Hannah Gilchrist in Light relief

Ever seen someone look like they are about to explode with anger? It's not pretty when you're on the receiving end, but it seems that most of us just can't control this sort of volcanic eruption.

While most of us would admit that they get a bit of road rage every so often, a survey has revealed that things are going a little further than the odd toot of the horn. Almost two thirds of us now think that people are getting angrier and nearly 30% of us have a friend or family member who has trouble controlling their outbursts.

But it's not just on the roads that people are finding their fury, 45% of the UK admit to regularly losing our tempers at work with half lashing out at technology as a result. So should we be safeguarding our technology or our staff?

Unsurprisingly research suggests that it's the pressures of modern life that is creating irritability, not our IT, but should businesses be more aware of those living on the edge and help them manage their anger?

Perhaps signs that say 'move away from the computer before someone gets hurt' would help.

I'm guilty of regularly exploding and, yes, throwing something at a nice solid wall can feel very rewarding! I like to think that once the outburst has happened I can go back to normal and being calm. People who don't show what they are feeling allow all the stresses to build up inside them and they are probably doing themselves more harm tham if they exploded.

I won't allow myself to hold a grudge after an argument whether I'm right or wrong so I don't see what is wrong with being an "exploder", I'd rather be that than an axe murderer in waiting!

Computers have large memories. We are starting to log all technology abuse to a Word document. One day we will rise up and &^%£"&*(%&^$&^$&MEMORY DELETED!!"*((*&

Sorry, what was I saying? Why am I covered in coffee?
