The truth about IT skills and small business

Posted 20 November 2006 at 10:30AM by Derek Hemphill in IT systems and support

Does your company have the necessary skills to exploit today's business technology?

BT has commissioned a report with the Centre for Future Studies to find out just how advanced small businesses are in their understanding, adoption and utilisation of IT and Communication Technology (IT&C).

The comprehensive report discusses the key findings of the research which shows that many small businesses are slow adopters of new technology due factors such as: lack of understanding of how it can help their business, lack of support, and perceived high cost of ownership. It then goes on to explore the small business market in more detail, the impact IT&C has on business and society and last section looks at how proficiency, use and adoption of the technology.

While forty-nine pages long, the report is a useful read for any small or medium business that has or is planning to invest in IT and Communications Technology. There is also an executive summary document (just ten pages) for those of us who are chronologically challenged.
