Time to give your IT system a healthcheck

Posted 31 January 2007 at 1:36PM by Alexa Williamson in IT systems and support

Martin came across an interesting Computer Weekly article yesterday that pointed out many UK SMEs are not using their IT systems efficiently.

Are you?

If not, it maybe costing your business thousands. For example, the article states that it's costing two-thirds of businesses an estimated £1,259 per annum for IT security failures.

Are you backing up your files? We've all got a friend or colleague who lost everything when their computer died, yet half of small businesses surveyed are still not backing up their data on a daily basis.

Time for a IT systems healthcheck - ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are our systems properly safe-guarded against theft and online intrusion?
  • Are our security programs updated regularly?
  • Have we backed up our data correctly in case of loss?
  • Are we using our web presence to its full advantage or is there more we can do with it?
  • Is our IT equipment insured?
  • Can we produce marketing materials ourselves using our equipment and software?
  • Are our networks set up so that we can find data quickly?
  • Do we have the right communication networks in place to reach other colleagues and clients cost-effectively?
  • Do we have the correct person/system in place to manage our IT?
