Dell battery recall

Posted 15 August 2006 at 2:29PM by David Morgan in IT systems and support

Dell are recalling 4.1 million laptop batteries as they could overheat and become a fire risk.

About 1.4 million of the batteries have been sold outside the US. You can check whether your Dell is affected at the Dell website.

Dell have also been writing about the recall on their blog, where they respond to some of the comments made in the NY Times article.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, but the battery is not on the recall list. It was made in Korea. I have had a problem with it shutting down although I'm not sure if it was from overheating. Is this "made in Korea" battery prone to overheating? jw

Hi Jan,

The Dell website only mentions batteries made in Japan or China and only for certain models of computer.

If your battery was made in Korea then it's not part of the recall.

If you're unsure it's best to get in contact with Dell direct.
