Don't get caught with your (cyber) pants down

Posted 27 July 2007 at 8:48AM by Tina Vilaca in Internet security

When I talk to friends about how they feel about the internet, they tend to fall into 2 camps. They either see it as a great opportunity where they're able to connect with people and use it as a tool to be more efficient. Or they believe that everyone is vulnerable to hackers, cybercrime and malware with risks lurking just around the (cyber) corner.

Reality is, if you have a computer (desktop or laptop) connected to the internet to shop online, or to check emails, you may be unprotected from many online threats - so security is a must-have for peace of mind when connected.

But how much would it cost your company if you used an infected computer to send an email from your Outlook Web Access, and infected the receiver through email?

There are a number of ways to protect your business, but to get you started BT offers anti-virus and personal firewall for Windows desktops and laptops, absolutely free of charge and we now support Vista!

So, if you've yet to get your business protected, why not make use of these free services from BT, we even provide a simple installation tool to make it a pain free experience!

I use Apple OSX - when are you going to start supporting this operating system?

Hi Andrew, although Mac's are popular in the media and publishing area, in terms of computer-user population, you belong to the minority and so our security services don't have the Mac OS in the roadmap yet. Although I read that Mac OS X is reasonably secure, and if you keep up with your patches and updates, that the likelihood of getting a virus is very reduced.

That's the idea, so I am happy! :) BT is very concious of threats and the need of security. Thanks for your support!
