Online tips on slashing your electricity bill

Even if the environmental argument isn't enough to sway you, you'll probably have noticed the rising cost of electricity - and realised there's money to be saved by cutting down your usage.
The Daily Cup of Tech blog has a page of handy tips for reducing your power consumption, which can apply equally to your home or office. For example, did you know it 'costs' less electricity to use a simple text editor like Notepad, rather than a full-fat word processor like Microsoft Word? Or that a flat LCD screen is three times more efficient than a conventional CRT monitor? Sounds like all the excuse I need to buy that huge new screen I've had my eye on...
Of course, you can go one step further, by switching to free electricity? Really? Yes, well, in small charges anyway. New in shops this month is the Freeloader, a solar-powered battery charger with adaptors to fit all sorts of gadgets from iPods to mobile phones. Chuck it in your briefcase, and you'll always have a backup power supply - and a clean conscience. At £30 or thereabouts, it'll pay for itself in no time too.
