Does your business have a no smoking policy?

Posted 28 June 2007 at 8:53AM by Martin Faux in Hints and tips

Personally I'm looking forward to the 1st of July and being able to go into a pub and not come out with my clothes reeking of smoke.

But your local is not the only enclosed public space that's affected by the smoking ban, which will see England fall in line with the rest of the UK.

So what exactly does the ban consider to be an "enclosed public space"?

Well it includes most workplaces, and work vehicles that are used by more than one person.

Businesses will be obliged to make staff, customers and other visitors aware that these areas are smoke-free with the law setting out exactly how this must be done.

If you are the owner or manager of a business then it is your responsibility to ensure your workplace remains smoke-free. Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to £2,500.

So how can you ensure your staff are not still puffing on the job?

Well last week I mentioned that we'd teamed up with "beprofessional" to launch a free service BT Business Builder.

This service will provide you with a no-smoking policy completely free.

Howard Rosenberg of 'beprofessional' says, "This clearly worded policy is a great way to communicate to your staff how the new law affects them and what happens if they choose to ignore it."

So what are you waiting for, order it now for FREE!
