Textual healing

It seems we are a nation obsessed. No, not with alcohol but with our mobile phones. So much so in fact that I'm actually considering the term binge-texters as a hopeful entry to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Nevertheless, our love affair with texting isn't something to be scoffed at. After a gloomy December we managed to rack up 5,000 messages every second, but is it really something to celebrate - we don't want to speak to people so we text?
Personally, I'm much more of a text-friendly girl only reserving the phone call for the likes of close friends or family, or simply when I've got something gripping to say and the mere time it takes to write it down absorbs my excitement.
But it seems for some people, using a phone to speak is even more boring. So with more than 17 million people accessing the internet on a mobile in December and with picture messaging starting to take off, where will this leave the humble text message?
Personally, I could be converted. I have to admit that I am quite envious of those folk swanning around looking up the closets café on their phones and, to be honest, if my colleague Ian shakes his iPhone in my face one more time I think I'll have to go out and join the club!

Good thing about txt is that you dont get voicemail, you dont get an engaged tone and you dont have to worry about whether or not background noise might put off the party you called/ is calling you.
Still like a bit of banter with loved ones on the phone from time to time though.

I get unlimited texts with my phone package along with 500 free minutes.
Im the same as Hannah. I only phone family or close friends. I dont like to phone people for something that could be simply put in a text such as what scott said. Rather than phone each mate you want to invite you can simply just type "beer at 8 oclock" and send it to multiple people in the one go.Just think if some people would rather text their mates on the bus rather than phone them to have the same conversation they could have in one text and the world could be a sanier place!
