Entering the online marketplace

Posted 15 February 2007 at 9:25AM by Alexa Williamson in Ecommerce and online payments

Who hasn't bought something on eBay these days? But what about selling your goods on it or at another online auction or marketplace?

So, where can you start? Here are a few of the most successful places to set up shop - or advertise yours.

  • BT Tradespace - our new online community where you can set up your own blog, post photos/podcasts and take advantage of many other features to promote your goods and services. (See our post on the launch of BT Tradespace)
  • eBay allows businesses to set up their own web shops and charges a commission on each transaction made. It's famous for its feedback system, which enables a business to gain a good reputation from customer reviews
  • Froogle (which is owned by Google) allows one to list their items for free. All you need is an e-commerce enabled website and a Froogle account
  • Ubid aims to eliminate what it perceives as the risks involved in buying or selling through eBay, and is exclusively for business sellers
  • Amazon's marketplace offers a number of options with most sales involving a commission paid to Amazon
