YouTube, a blender, an iPhone - and a five-fold sales increase

I've written before about Blendtec, the US company who demonstrate the frankly awesome power of their blender products with a regular supply of YouTube videos, in a series entitled 'Will It Blend?'. They've really excelled themselves this time, with a shiny new Apple iPhone going head-to-head with the 'smoothie' setting... and coming off much, much worse. Even more impressively, it took barely half a day for the clip to reach an audience of 100,000.
Analyst Josh Bernoff from Forrester Research has produced a list of reasons why the Blendtec campaign works, and it's well worth reviewing if you think your company could make use of YouTube. Actually doing it is easy, he (rightly) concludes - 'the hard part - the priceless part - is thinking it up.' And if you need any further encouragement: the company's sales have increased five-fold in about seven months.
Not much consolation if you're a UK resident longing to buy your iPhone, though...
