Viral campaigns : All for a bit of attention

Flashmob stops the traffic in Trafalgar Square, but would you join a viral marketing stunt?
They seem to be everywhere right now, companies dreaming up crazy ways to grab your attention. But like with the flashmob antics are they really worth entertaining?
A few years ago companies wouldn't even stretch to £15,000 for an internet campaign, but times are changing and businesses are now willing to pay tenfold for the same kind of exposure.
Just look at the Quiksilver viral ad featuring a man throwing a stick of dynamite into a lake, just so his friend can go surfing.
The 80-second clip has been viewed a staggering 10 million times and although it appears to be created by an amateur, the masterpiece actually took two-and-a-half months to make.
But is it worth it? And for that matter, are you?
