Relocation retention

Posted 22 July 2008 at 8:29AM by Hannah Gilchrist in Doing business online

Not all companies would have the full support of their staff if they decided to up-sticks and move 30 miles down the road, but with the temptation of free broadband and fully paid travel expenses would you think twice about a commute?

This was the case for software firm Strategic Thought. After making the move from Wimbledon to Maidenhead, the business wanted to keep all of its 115 (mainly mobile) workers. But whilst the company started to grow how did the employees feel about the transition?

Admittedly, the majority of staff were mobile workers, but if your staff don't live locally does that put you at a disadvantage? Are they familiar with the area or residents? Or do they even know who the local competitors are?

They say moving is one of the most stressful things you can ever do, but how far is too far?

When it come's to expension of buisness, there are alway's troubles and teething problems. Not everyone is going to be happy at the move because they will be inconvienced, wither it be traveling time, kids or family commitments.

But when it comes to buisness and growth you need to think what is best for buisness, and if that means that in order for buisness expansion and growth to happen a relocation is required, then go ahead!

Talking of relocating, what's going on with this redesign? This page has the old header at the top. When you click on anything you go to a page with the new header, which doesn't include the blog.

And don't get me started on the multiple log-ins that seemed to be required as you move around the site. I've logged in - stop making me log in again ...
