Get some brownie points on Valentine's Day

Posted 13 February 2008 at 1:45PM by Ian Betteridge in Doing business online

Spring is in the air, and that most important of festivals is looming. Yes, Valentine's Day is almost upon us and with it comes the inevitable cards, flowers and severe telling off if you forget it.

Of course, by now you've probably already booked that restaurant table, and ordered the chocolates (I recommend spiced chocolate truffles from Paul A Young - please send to the usual address). But what if you get stuck at work, and end up missing the evening? How much grovelling will you have to do if there's a late meeting that ruins your well-laid plans?

Of course, you can't take the day off - at least not unless you own the company, in which case everyone else can stay late. But what you can do is work from home, taking advantage of technologies like BT MeetMe and Live Meeting to have a "virtual" presence at any meeting you need to attend. That way, you don't have to miss out on vital meetings in the office - but you can ensure that your beloved isn't giving you grief for the rest of the year.
