With few people in the office, I'd almost believe that the holiday period is a quiet time. However, some of the news I've read this week indicates to me that there is as much hustle, bustle and forward-thinking going on in the online area as ever.

  • IWF reforms could pave way for UK net censorship (The Register)
    The Home Office wants all ISPs to the "UK public" to make sure they impose content blocking for illegal websites. The article discusses how this kind of legislation could affect small businesses offering Internet services to other businesses.
  • Wikipedia creator turns to search
    The creator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, is planning a new search engine where results are decided by humans and not algorithms.
  • Google overtakes Technorati
    Google's Blogsearch is now apparently more popular than veteran blog search engine Technorati.
  • The Social Web: Sharing or Sharecropping
    An interesting analysis of how social networking sites such as MySpace are making large profits from the free content created by their users.
