And now you can submit your expenses by text message!

Back in October I mentioned that we'd launched BT Web expenses, an online service that allows businesses to track employee expenses.
Well, one of the great features that I failed to mention is the ability to submit expense items as they are incurred, by sending short text messages.
So, if you or your employees spend a lot of their time out on the road, this feature could save the end-of-month scramble to compile trips and find receipts.
Here's how it works : You step out of a taxi and while waiting in reception for your meeting, you send a text message with the amount, the word Taxi and who you are visiting.
When you want to submit your expenses at the end of the month, you'll see a list that includes your taxi expense item and all others that you've texted that month. You can then add additional detail and drop those items into that month's claim.
No more wading through past diaries to see where you went and who you dined with.
Why not sign up to a free trial now.

expense accounts encourage employees to take advantage. i recently had to dismiss Mr X from my company as he used company time and money to go to Glasgow to see McFly live in concert. cant believe he left a paper trail.
beware of expense accounts and the abuse they encourage

No I'd have to agree with Mr McMahon. Without physical reciepts as hard evidence what's to stop an employee bumping on a few extra pounds from his taxi fare or dinner?

wow Vincent, that is shocking.
what happened to handing your boss a reciept for something and doing it that way, then you know what was spent, where and what for.
at least it wasnt that Girls Aloud huh?

While i agree this is a nifty idea, im not sure it can justify the cost when i do employ someone specifically to deal with accounts and to do the super crazy things that are required in the financial world.
I would rather just give him the expense statements and let him figure it out just to see if he can work some tax back on it if possible ;)
If someone is abusing the expesne account then i will trust my accountant to notice these things as thats why i pay him.
I thought you owned the company Bob? Maybe you should implement some new policies just to wind up your business partner Cody.

Thank you for your comments everyone. We do not claim to enable businesses to stop fraudulent use of company expenses, but rather help businesses keep on top of tracking their company outgoings. By deploying an expense management system, you or your accountant can quickly identify the highest spenders and any abnormalities in company expenses, enabling you to manage your business better.

BTs' responce is brilliant and everyone who had a negative bad thing to say about this product may have to eat their words. Well done Martin.

What martin said.
James "mr.meldrew" Lyon could do with reading it.
BT are giving you a system to use but its up to you to monitor the system for abuse (aka yourself or your accountant. Notice the word accountant. This is a professional who has no association with BT. So BT wont need to blog about it to tell you how to run your business.)
BT can only offer advice or in this case a system to help further your business.
In response to Carl, i did say i cant justify the cost but its a nice idea!

Sounds good to me. Getting receipts from taxi drivers is just annoying.
P.S. Why do so many professional wrestlers post on this site anyway?

A very simple concept this, and a good way to keep in track of employee's expences. In response to Papa Shango, we need a break from professional wrestling.
