Wi-Fi making waves for sailors?

It once seemed like a luxury for some of the chicest cafes in town, but now it seems everyone is getting in on the act - not least the Isle of Wight ferries.
No we're not talking iced coffee, it's Wi-Fi that's the latest must have amongst the chic techie crowd. And now it can be for the seafarers too. Ok so it's only going to be available to the crew first, but there's no doubt that soon the 3.6Mbps wireless broadband coverage will be extended to their customers too.
But why has Wi-Fi taken off in such a big way? I can understand the Wi-Fi lounges at airports, and even at cafes, but I can't quite imagine the business folk among us setting up their laptops for the maximum of 40 minutes they would be onboard.
So who's next on the Wi-Fi revolution list?
