A study by security firm Scansafe estimates that 49% of web traffic in the workplace is what they deem 'non-productive' - including requests for gambling, music, porn and webmail sites. All the more reason, then, to ensure you have a clear policy regarding what is and isn't acceptable. There's lots of good information and advice on the Business Link website about defining an appropriate policy for email and web usage, and taking action when someone breaches it. There's also a special information leaflet produced by the conciliation service, Acas.
