Being always on wins the business

Posted 6 May 2008 at 8:27AM by Ian Betteridge in Connecting to the Internet, Doing business online

According to a report on SmallBizPod, research by BlackBerry-maker RIM suggests that nearly half of small businesses have won new business thanks to being connected on the move.

What's more, the most popular method of getting in touch when mobile is email - something that might surprise those wedded to the idea of always talking when on the phone.

There are obvious advantages to being able to browse your email any time you want, but it's worth remembering that email on the move also lets you retain control over your communications. Unlike phone calls, email isn't interruptive - you can handle it at your leisure, and in any down time you have available.

So while the idea of being "always on" might sound a little daunting, don't forget that these tools are here to help you keep control - so use them wisely, and they can help you keep on track of business.

The trouble is that most people only read their email's maybe once a day (or 2 or 3 days) instead of hourly.

We are a Mail Order Company and read our emails on a regular basis 7 days a week (52 weeks of the year) so as not to miss out on an order.

If you don't answer emails quickly you WILL miss out on that all important order, even on Christmas day. Remember Christmas day is not a holiday for many people around the world.

Some people get money for Christmas and want to start spending it as quickly as possible - Especially young people who are often very impatient.

It is also very frustrating when you answer an email straight away and the Customer then takes 2 or 3 days to reply back.

We use emails to send out invoices in reply to customer emails. Some people will pay up immediately and others will delay up to a week expecting you to hold the goods for them - We hold items for 3 days from date of email invoice.

So research from a company that manufactures Blackberries has found that owning a Blackberry is dead good for your business?
