World wide blog boom continues

Did you know that this blog post is just one of 1.3 million that will be written today? Well that's true according to a new report published by Technorati this week.
Technorati are the leading authority on blog tracking, and currently track over 59 million blogs. It believes that more than half of these blogs are 'active' meaning they are updated at least once per quarter.
The report also shows that 100,000 new blogs are being created every single day. The creator of Technorati, David Sifry, explains that while the figure is less than June of this year, this is mostly due to their tracking being better at filtering out 'splogs' or spam blogs.
So does the world need nearly 60 million blogs? Well the good news is that you don't have to read them all to find out things that are of interest to you. Techorati actually do a pretty good job at bringing to the surface the most popular posts and allow you to search using key words or 'tags'.
You can see an example of tags in use on this site at the end of each post. Tags are simply a method of categorising posts based on key words. The person writing the post (in this case me) will specify what tags they want to attribute to their post.
On Technorati's web site you can get a real-time view the most popular tags. At the time of writing this post they included; Bush, democrats, election, divorce and spears!
If you have something you want to say, you can start your own blog and join the revolution in minutes. I created one from scratch in literally five minutes using Six apart's hosted blog service TypePad. There are many free and paid for services available on the internet many of which offer a free trial. So why wait? Get blogging now and tell us all about it!
